WIRELESS.NWA.COM IS BOOKMARKED IN AVANTGO’S TRAVEL CHANNEL
Northwest Airlines and AvantGo Inc., a mobile Internet company, today
announced the availability of real-time access to Northwest Airlines’
flight and gate status, WorldPerks mileage balance information, the
ability to view travel reservations, download timetables, and check
current weather conditions, from AvantGo’s ‘Travel’ channel.
“Northwest is continuing to lead the way in putting technology in the
hands of consumers to make their travel easier than ever,” said Al
Lenza, Northwest Vice President of Distribution and E-Commerce. “We know
from our experience with AvantGo and other information distribution
channels that customers increasingly demand these services.”
The new partnership will allow mobile device users, including Palm OS
and Windows CE-based devices, to access Northwest Airlines information
wirelessly in real-time and offline via desktop synchronization. Users
can visit www.avantgo.com to sign up for the free mobile Internet
service.
“AvantGo is pleased to partner with Northwest Airlines and provide our
over 1 million registered users access to real-time wireless airline
information,” said Ann Culver, Director of Partner Marketing and
Development for AvantGo Mobile Internet. “The more familiar people are
becoming with accessing or synchronizing real-time information, the more
they crave personalized information like that provided by Northwest
Airlines.”
Northwest is the first US based airline to partner with AvantGo to
deliver flight information. Earlier this year, Northwest became the
first airline to be displayed on AT&T’s Digital PocketNet(SM) service
and on the Sprint PCS Wireless Web. Northwest Airlines flight
information and WorldPerks Account information is immediately accessible
within the travel menu on the AT&T Wireless PocketNet service and within
the travel category of the Sprint PCS Wireless Web menu.
Northwest Airlines is the world’s fourth largest airline offering more
than 2,600 daily departures with hubs at Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul,
Memphis, Tokyo and Amsterdam. With its travel partners, Northwest serves
more than 750 cities in more than 120 countries on 6 continents. Based
on statistics compiled by the U.S. Department of Transportation,
Northwest was the most on-time U.S. airline among the seven largest
network carriers for the period 1990-1999. |
