KLM will
implement a wide range of changes in its winter schedules for European
and intercontinental services. This will contribute to yield
improvement, as proposed in the Baseline program. KLM has scrutinized
each individual flight even more closely than in previous years, to
assess its contribution to the company’s overall result. Capacity will
be maintained at practically the same level as in the current summer
schedule.
On many European routes, the type of aircraft deployed will change and
services operated at a loss, especially in the weekends, will be
terminated.
On the intercontinental network, frequencies will be increased on
profitable routes and aircraft configurations to many destinations will
be altered.
The winter schedule begins on Sunday, October 29, 2000 and runs through
to Saturday, March 31, 2001.
Europe and the Middle Ea st
The Boeing 737 services to Milan and Rome will each be increased with
one additional daily roundtrip flight, restoring frequency to the level
prior to the alliance with Alitalia.
The service to Beirut will be with smaller aircraft this coming winter,
so that frequency can be raised to five weekly nonstop roundtrips.
The ensuing capacity will be deployed on the routes to Damascus and
Amman, raising frequency to these cities by two and three additional
weekly services respectively.
North, South and Central America
KLM will expand service to Mexico, raising this to daily service at the
start of the winter schedules.
KLM will again take over operation of flight KL641/642 (NW61/62) to New
York from Northwest. In November, KLM will also take over one of the
daily KLM-Northwest services to Detroit. Capacity on this route will be
greatly increased by deploying a Boeing 747-300 instead of a DC-10.
The number of weekly services to Sao Paulo in Brazil will be raised from
four to five.
The number of service to the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba will also be
increased this coming winter.
Asia and Africa
The number of weekly services to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia will be raised
from four to seven. Four of these services will fly on to Manila in the
Philippines. Cooperation with Malaysian Airline System will ensure that
passengers are offered twice-daily services between Amsterdam and Kuala
Lumpur. This winter KLM will also raise frequency to Hong Kong, offering
daily roundtrip service.
Flight frequency for combined services to Kilimanjaro and Dar-Es-Salaam
will increase from three to four services weekly.
Partn ers
KLM’s European partners will also make various changes in their winter
service schedules to and from Schiphol.
KLM will cease codesharing with Regional Airlines of France at the start
of the winter schedule. The codesharing services between Florence and
Amsterdam, which KLM began operating together with the Italian airline
Meridiana this summer, will be continued this coming winter.
KLM Cargo
KLM Cargo will substantially increase cargo capacity on intercontinental
routes, by deploying more Boeing 747 Combis. The number of 747 Combi
roundtrip services will be raised from 90 now to 99 this winter. Cargo
capacity will mainly increase on routes to Mexico, New York, Sao Paulo,
Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong.
Cargo capacity to Helsinki will be increased by adding two new weekly
services. |
