Double daily to Johannesburg

British Airways will increase the frequency of flights between Johannesburg and London to twice daily from January.

The launch of double-daily Johannesburg services follows last month's increase of Cape Town to daily. It means British Airways will offer 21 direct flights to South Africa every day from next year.

Alan Burnett, the airline's Area General Manager for Africa, said: "The increase of Johannesburg services to twice daily is great news, as demand from both business and leisure customers on this route is strong and continuing to grow.

"We've been campaigning for some time for double daily Johannesburg flights and a daily Cape Town service. We're delighted that we are now able to offer the flexibility and convenience of regular flights every day of the week in both cities. With these new schedules and seamless services, British Airways can offer an unrivalled product to customers travelling to, from and around South Africa."

Passengers will also have even better access to other South African destinations - such as Port Elizabeth and Durban - by transferring onto flights operated by British Airways’ franchise partner, Comair.

The new Johannesburg services will be operated by Boeing 747-400 aircraft. BA055 will leave London Heathrow at 7.25 pm daily, arriving in Johannesburg at 7.15 am the following morning. The return service, BA054, will depart Johannesburg at 10 pm and arrive in Heathrow 8.10 am the following day.
