CATHAY PACIFIC INTRODUCES NEW DISNEY FUN PACKS

Travel News Asia Date: 16 November 2000

Cathay Pacific Airways today launched a series of new children's fun packs featuring loveable cartoon characters from The Walt Disney Company. The fun packs come in eight different themes and are distributed on all flights. The packs will be available for all children for the next 6 months. Cathay Pacific is also introducing new Disney "Design-a-Mugs" and puzzle boards.

Characters featured in the fun packs include Mickey Mouse and Minnie, Donald Duck, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto. Themes include "Mickey's Tour", "Cyber City", "Virtual Mickey", and "Mickey Metropolis". The packs include a reusable backpack containing Disney games, toys, activity books, stationery, pens, and crayons.

Out of the eight different fun packs, four are for children aged three to six years, and four for children aged between seven and 12. Different packs are used for regional flights and long-haul flights to give children greater variety.

Cathay Pacific's Manager Product Sarah Blomfield said: "As more and more families are travelling together we are doing what we can to make the travel experience more enjoyable for both parents and children. We are delighted to be working with The Walt Disney Company to introduce these attractive new products. We will continue to look for ways to make family travel easier and more pleasurable."

Disney's Country Director Hong Kong / Consumer Products Dorothy Chan said: "We have designed innovative and fun-filled kids' packs for young travellers. These products aim to bring some magic to kids during their trips. We are very excited to be working with Cathay Pacific to create these entertaining products and we hope they can be enjoyed by all customers."

The specially-designed Disney Design-a-Mugs and puzzle boards will be presented to children in The Wing, Cathay Pacific's airport lounges in Hong Kong. Design-a-Mugs will also be given to unaccompanied children travelling on Cathay Pacific. The "Design-A-Mug" comes with three different ready-to-colour pictures and six crayons. When a young artist has coloured in the cartoon, the picture can be sealed inside the clear plastic mug, creating a unique souvenir suitable for hot or cold drinks. The puzzle board is a jigsaw featuring Mickey Mouse piloting a jet aircraft with his Disney friends as passengers.

Cathay Pacific has won a number of awards for the care and attention it devotes to young travellers. Among others, the airline was voted the "Most Child Friendly Airline" in the first annual travel survey conducted by the South China Morning Post and Post Magazine.
