New Help for Fearful Flyers

Travel News Asia Date: 15 June 2000

Northwest Airlines and Broadview Media Release "Fearless Flying" Program.

Northwest Airlines and Broadview Media are pleased to introduce "Fearless Flying," an at-home version of Northwest Airlines’ successful WINGS seminars for anxious flyers. The kit contains a 40-minute video that provides information about air travel, including pilot training, aircraft maintenance, adverse weather, and air traffic control. In addition, the video details the sights and sounds associated with flying, and offers a variety of breathing and relaxation techniques to use when traveling. The kit also contains a 30-minute audiotape with relaxation exercises, a handbook, a relaxation breathing tube, and a $50 certificate good for travel on Northwest Airlines.

Liz Harrison, WINGS Program Coordinator says, "The 'Fearless Flying' program really captures the essence of the WINGS class. We’ve found it’s a valuable tool to reinforce the program, and an effective self-help program for people who are afraid to fly but cannot take the class."

The cost of the kit is $69.95. With the $50-off airfare certificate, the actual cost to the user is only $19.95, plus shipping and handling.

WINGS seminars for fearful flyers will continue to be offered in Northwest’s hub cities. These comprehensive seminars, which cost $450, are presented by the same team of aviation professionals that helped create the "Fearless Flying" program and cover much of the same information as in the kit. During the two-and-a-half day seminar, WINGS participants have the opportunity to visit an aircraft hangar, work one-on-one with aviation professionals, and take a round-trip graduation flight on the last day of class.

Broadview Media, the firm that produced the program, is a script-to-screen media production company composed of creative producers, writers, directors, editors, and graphics professionals. The company maintains offices in Minneapolis and Chicago.
