Kurt Wachtveitl, who has been general manager of The Oriental, Bangkok
for 33 years, is recognized as one of the world’s greatest hoteliers. He
and his team of over 1,000 dedicated employees – a vast majority of whom
have worked for the hotel for 10 to 20 years and some for over 40 years
– are committed in ensuring the “magic” of The Oriental is the essence
of the hotel and continues to be experienced by all guests, especially
during its anniversary year.
As an advocate of Thai tradition, Wachtveitl has also ensured for the
anniversary celebrations that the hotel will continue to support Thai
custom, from the sponsorship of Thai cultural programmes to staff
spiritual well-being and meditation courses at Buddhist monasteries. The
hotel is also an active supporter and advisor to The Royal Project in
Northern Thailand, implemented in 1969 to assist the hill tribes in
converting former opium fields into viable farming crops. |
