Philippine
Airlines resumes a direct service between Manila and Pusan, Korea
tomorrow (July 15), restoring a key channel for Filipino mariners who
regularly converge in one of Asia’s busiest commercial ports.
PAL will serve the route four times a week using 150-seater Airbus
320-200 aircraft.
Departures from Manila are every Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and
Sunday at 3:35 P.M. Arrival in Pusan is 7:40 P.M.
The return flight departs Pusan at 8:45 P.M. on the same days, arriving
in Manila at 11:05 P.M.
Pusan is PAL’s second destination in Korea – the flag carrier already
operates daily flights to the capital Seoul – and 14th international
point overall, as the airline continues to gradually expand its route
network in its second year under rehabilitation.
Last June 2, PAL began thrice-weekly flights to Sydney, Australia.
Pusan, located at the southeastern tip of the Korean peninsula, was one
of PAL’s key secondary points when the service was first mounted from
July 1996 to September 1997.
The route is popular with the thousands of Filipino sailors and merchant
marine crew who use the city, Korea’s top international trade port, as a
jump-off point for ship sailings.
Pusan is a major tourist and business destination as well, and also
generates a significant amount of cargo traffic vis-à-vis Manila. |
