Quantitude,
Inc., announced today that it will provide telecommunications services
via its global TCP/IP network for IBM’s recently announced e- business
initiative, “IBM ConnectEdge for Airlines.” Quantitude is the recently
formed global network services subsidiary of Galileo International, Inc.
(NYSE: GLC), a leader in global travel distribution services.
ConnectEdge, the new initiative from IBM, was developed to help airlines
embrace e-business, boost their customer service and improve operational
efficiency. Through ConnectEdge, airlines will be able to develop new
e-business applications faster and enable these applications to work
together seamlessly and be integrated with their existing legacy
systems.
IBM will make the Quantitude network available to its ConnectEdge
airline customers. Quantitude will use its new TCP/IP network for the
connections. The new network will have switching hubs in 300 top travel
cities, totaling 80 percent of the world’s travel market, and will
deliver the cost efficiencies of the Internet, coupled with the high
quality service and performance demanded by such a mission-critical
private network.
The two companies also agreed to offer networking services to additional
customers beyond IBM ConnectEdge, and to pursue several strategic
initiatives.
“Since IBM ConnectEdge will deliver airline applications on a
subscription basis, hosted in an IBM data center, customers will require
a network with high levels of resiliency, reliability and security,”
said Ian McClenaughan, general manager, IBM ConnectEdge for Airlines.
“The global reach of Quantitude’s network, combined with its travel
industry heritage, will be of great value to IBM ConnectEdge customers.”
“Providing networking services to IBM ConnectEdge customers is a natural
extension of Quantitude’s and Galileo’s strong presence in the travel
industry,” said James E. Lubinski, Quantitude’s chairman and Galileo’s
executive vice president of Operations. “Because Quantitude will be
operating Galileo’s existing network, it will be able to leverage the
network’s global reach on behalf of all of its customers, including IBM.
Galileo’s existing network is the largest of its kind in any industry,
totaling more than 20,000 endpoints linking more than 40,000 travel
agency locations and travel suppliers including more than 500 airlines,
45,000 hotels, all major car rental companies, cruise lines and numerous
tour operators.” |
