Thai Airways
International Public Company Limited, together with Songkhla Province,
the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and the Athletic Association of
Thailand, held a joint press conference to announce their sponsorship of
the upcoming “2nd International Songkhla Marathon Competition”, at
Banquet Room, 11th Floor, Building 3, at THAI’s Head Office, on
Vibhavadee Rangsit Road.
The conference was chaired by Mr.Palakorn Suwanrath, Deputy Permanent
Secretary of Interior Ministry, Mr. Banyat Jansena, Songkhla Governor,
Mr. Thamnoon Wanglee, THAI’s President, Lt.Gen. Lerdrat Rattanavanich,
President of the Athletic Association of Thailand and Mr. Theerapoj
Charoonsri, Secretary of the 2nd International Songkhla Marathon
Competition Committee.
The main objectives of the competition are to enhance tourism in
Songkhla Province as well as create greater awareness among the Thai
people of the benefit of exercise in order to promote a healthy life.
In addition, the competition is organized to raise fund for the General
Prem Tinnasulanont Foundation, to sponsor lunch for students in
Songkhla. The competition is scheduled to begin on August 27, 2000, The
marathon matches are divided into 4 major categories as follows:
1. Marathon 42,195 km.
2. Half marathon 21.1 km
3. Mini marathon 10.5 km.
4. Run-for-health 3 km.
The starting point of the competition will be at the Khlom Luang
Chumporn Khen Udomsak Monument. All runners will follow the route
towards the Keaw Resort Beach, where the beautiful scenery and standard
route planning have been accepted on an international level by the
International Athletic Association.
The top five winners will receive the prize of 150,000 baht, 80,000
baht, 60,000 baht, 40,000 baht and 30,000 baht, respectively. For the
first top five Thai winners (male/female) will receive 70,000 baht,
50,000 baht, 30,000 baht, 20,000 baht and 10,000 baht, respectively. A
wide range of prizes will be given to the first eleven winners of every
age group. There is also a recognition prize for the first winner who
was born in Songkhla. |
