Drivers of all
kinds of vehicles used for tourist transportation are to undergo special
training to help them improve their service and safety standards for
visitors.
The one-day training course will be held at the conference hall on the
11th floor of Sun Towers Building on September 6, 2000. The first of its
kind for tourist vehicle drivers, it is being jointly organised by the
Department of Land Transport, Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA),
Association of Non-regular Route Public Carriers and the Tourism
Authority of Thailand (TAT).
The course is expected to attract about 100 drivers from major travel
and transportation companies who are members of ATTA and the Association
of Non-regular Route Public Carriers. This association includes
companies which supply buses, coaches, mini-buses, limousines and other
vehicles used by visitors.
The objectives of the training are to improve tourist service standards,
build drivers’ awareness of their duties and responsibilities and
enhance their service-minded attitude.
TAT Governor Pradech Phayakvichien said, “This is part of our efforts to
further underscore safety for visitors travelling in the Kingdom. It is
very important for our tourist-vehicle drivers to be well- versed with
all the latest information on this very important issue.”
He added, “The training is very much in line with our policy to upgrade
service standards and develop tourism-related human resources. The
training will improve the drivers’ working attitudes which will help
ensure tourist safety and boost the country’s image as a world-class
destination.”
Various interesting and informative lectures will be delivered by
representatives of related government and public offices. Governor
Pradech himself will open the course by discussing the “Significance of
the Tourism Industry”.
Other lectures will include: “Service Is Our Job” by Rangsit
University’s Head of English Department Mr. Art Sriha-ampai, “Duties and
Responsibilities of Tourist Vehicle Drivers” and “Safe Driving
Techniques” by the Department of Land Transport, “Traffic Rules and
Safety” by the Highway Police, and “Maintaining Good Health of Drivers”
by the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.
There is no registration fee for the course. However, only drivers from
