American
Airlines and Qantas have announced a significant expansion of their
cooperative marketing relationship, pending government approval.
Beginning Nov. 1, American will place its "AA" designator code on the
Australian airline's flights between Honolulu, Vancouver and Sydney, and
between Sydney and Christchurch, New Zealand.
American and Qantas began codesharing in 1989. Under the current
arrangement, American places its "AA" code on various Qantas
transpacific flights from Los Angeles and New York JFK while Qantas
places its "QF" code on ten American US domestic routes from Los
Angeles.
Members of American's AADVANTAGE travel awards program may earn mileage
credit and redeem awards on flights operated by Qantas and its
affiliates, while Qantas Frequent Flyers may do the same on flights
operated by American and its regional affiliate American Eagle. Both
American and Qantas are also founder members of the oneworld global
alliance and offer full oneworld services and benefits. |
