PATA and Marriott launch 'Lucky Donation' campaign

Travel News Asia 7 July 2004

The PATA Foundation and JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts have launched the PATA Foundation 20th Anniversary "Lucky Donation" campaign.

The PATA Foundation is a charitable foundation dedicated to assisting community-based tourism projects throughout Asia Pacific. Eligible projects are those that sustain or rehabilitate the environment or cultural heritage of an area, and which have a potentially positive impact on tourism. A project may also seek to educate local stakeholders and tourists about sustainability issues.

For 20 years, the PATA Foundation has disbursed donated funds to projects in more than 40 countries. JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa Public Relations Director Ms Lee Sutton said: "PATA Foundation grants have made a difference in environmental protection, culture and heritage conservation and education and training. These are clearly very important aspects in the sustainable growth and development of travel and tourism in our region."

Donate at least US$200 to the PATA Foundation from now until September 15 for a chance to win luxury accommodation prizes from JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts.

Ms Sutton said Marriott is proud to sponsor the PATA Foundation "Lucky Donation" initiative. "We congratulate the PATA Foundation on its 20th anniversary and hope everyone in travel and tourism will support this very worthy cause with donations," she said.

PATA Director-Board and Foundation Relations Ms Ratana Poopitakchatkaew said Marriott International had shown long-standing support for the PATA Foundation. "On behalf of the PATA Foundation Board of Trustees and the future beneficiaries of donated funds, I would like to thank Marriott's management for their vision and belief in environmental and cultural preservation."
