Shangri-La Hotels and
Resorts has appointed Martin F. Waechter as chief marketing officer
effective end March 2004.
With 42 hotels in
Asia Pacific and the Middle East and a further 26 new projects under development, the group has decided to strengthen its corporate marketing team
due to its rapid expansion.
Martin F. Waechter will rejoin Shangri-La's corporate office in Hong Kong from
Frankfurt-based Steigenberger Hotels AG, where he is currently a member of the
board of managing directors. Prior to this role, he worked for Shangri-La in Hong
Kong for seven years from 1993 as vice president marketing with responsibility
for a number of properties and then as vice president sales and marketing, when
he headed up global sales and distribution. In his new position, he will report to
Giovanni Angelini, Shangri-La's chief executive and managing director.
Commenting on the appointment, Giovanni Angelini said: 'Martin's 30-year
experience in the hospitality industry in Asia and Europe means that he is
extremely well placed to lead our global strategic marketing efforts at this
exciting time of our development. We look forward to welcoming him back to
Shangri-La after a four year absence.' |
