The World Tourism Organization (WTO)
is to present a video spot "Tourism Enriches" at the World Travel Market 2004
in London with an aim of upgrading the worldwide awareness campaign about the positive impacts of tourism, which "enriches
individuals, families, communities, nations and all the world".
The awareness campaign was launched during the First World Conference on Tourism Communications, held in Madrid, Spain
from 29-30 January 2004. The aims of campaign are:
- to promote tourism as a basic human right and way of life;
-
to stimulate communication about the benefits of tourism as the most prospective economic activity for the local communities and
countries
-
to enhance cooperation between destinations and the tourism industry with the local, regional and international
media
-
to link individual tourism entities to the larger community of international tourism.
The video spot has a duration of 30 seconds and will be offered to the national tourism administrations, airline companies and
broadcasters for public service announcement and other tourism stakeholders that wish to join the campaign. So far more than
30 countries and numerous regions, local authorities and companies from operational sector have either used the graphic
symbols and messages from the WTO's campaign, or designed their own activities to enhance awareness on tourism as the
most prospective economic and social activity. The spot will be shown on the central screen between presentations and on four
screens in the main Boulevard once an hour, in total 32 times a day.
The attractive video spot was produced by a Barcelona-based production and promotion company Deluxe Vision. "We at Deluxe
Vision believe that the best way to help others whilst helping ourselves is through tourism. The production of this video spot is
our humble contribution to this great awareness campaign by the WTO, so aptly entitled 'Tourism Enriches'," said Gianfranco
Meza, Director of Deluxe Vision, a WTO Affiliate Member.
The World Tourism Organization will be present at the WTM 2004, as every year, with its own stand in the Global Village Nr.
7500. Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Dawid de Villiers will announce the forecast of international tourism for the
year 2004. Among other senior WTO officials will be special adviser of the Secretary-General Geoffrey Lipman, with latest news on the Sustainable
