Insight Myanmar merges with Diethelm Travel

Travel News Asia 5 October 2004

In line with the consolidation of its regional operations, Diethelm Travel Asia (DTA) has merged its Myanmar-based Insight brand with Diethelm Travel Ltd, Myanmar, enabling the company to more effectively serve its clients and present a united front in the development of its business within the country.

As of October 1, all business formerly belonging to Insight Myanmar is transferred to the Diethelm brand, and new bookings will be made under Diethelm Travel Ltd, Myanmar. The merger signals the complete withdrawal of the Insight brand from the region, a process which first began in Q4 of last year with the cessation of Insight's operations in Thailand and Cambodia.

"While Insight Myanmar has continued to enjoy success as a high-end product in a market offering so many exciting opportunities, we believe that pooling our resources and skills under the Diethelm brand will enable us to offer a more efficient and dynamic service," said John Watson, chief executive officer, DTA.

"We are continually looking for ways to better service our clients and it is important that we continue to approach the rich potential of emerging destinations like Myanmar, with a clear market strategy," Watson added.

Heading Myanmar's newly integrated office will be Maarten Groeneveld, who takes over as managing director, Diethelm Travel Myanmar, from out going director, Lilli Saxer on October 15. Formerly general manager for Insight Thailand, Groeneveld said he was delighted to be back working with Diethelm in the country.

"Myanmar as a travel destination is still in it's infancy, but its wealth of cultural heritage, rich natural diversity and magical charm, ensure that in the not-too-distant future it will be a uniquely sort after destination. Diethelm Travel Myanmar looks forward to being part of that development process," said Groeneveld.
