Hilton Asia appoints Director of Sales

Travel News Asia 3 September 2004

Hilton Asia has appointed Ms Angelia Chew as Director of Sales to drive Singapore’s outbound leisure and MICE business into Hilton hotels throughout the Asia region. Mr Mohamed Ali, as Assistant Director of International Sales, will remain responsible for Corporate sales.

Welcoming the appointment, Simon Barlow Vice President – Operations, Hilton Asia, said, “The aggressive expansion of Hilton properties including Hilton Worldwide Resorts across Asia, coupled with a resurging confidence among travel agents and corporate end users, has fuelled the need for a dedicated leisure and MICE specialist. Angelia is a veteran in the industry and her nine years of property-based sales and marketing experience as well as her strong industry contacts will put Hilton first on the outbound shopping list.”

Angelia added that her appointment mirrors the return of the MICE specialist to travel agencies in Singapore. “Recent external factors like war and SARS did much to whittle down the number of inhouse MICE specialists. Thankfully, we are seeing a turning point and larger agencies have begun to beef up meetings specialists to match the upturn in business travel. I am excited to join Hilton at a time of growth and to be instrumental in educating the industry about the new properties coming on board as well as the existing favourites.”

Angelia began her hospitality career in Kuala Lumpur in 1991 as a Sales Coordinator for an international hotel brand. Her capabilities coupled with her charisma saw her rise up the corporate ladder earning five promotions within a space of five years. In 1996, she was appointed Director of Sales. In April 2000, Angelia diversified into the software industry and worked as Regional Sales Manager for Asia Pacific for Newmarket International Software.
