KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is reducing fares to all European destinations by as much as 40% effective January 1, 2005. The cheaper return fares will apply to flights from
Amsterdam to all 66 European destinations. The new prices will be applicable for the whole
year.
These price
reductions are the largest in KLM's history. The quality of the service on board and on the ground will remain the same. The changes are in response to increasing competition in the European air travel
market and a drop in average air fares. KLM said it expects to attract more passengers with these fares and to generate considerably more income from the European
passenger market.
Fare structures more transparent
Clear fare
categories, each with its own conditions and price tag, will enhance the
fare transparency. Take-Off Fares – aimed at the leisure market – and Overnight Fares, Same-Day
Return Fares and Select Fares for the business sector.
Greater availability of cheaper tickets
With
the new Take-Off Fares a return to London Heathrow is now available from
EUR 69, instead of EUR 109; to Stockholm for EUR 139 (from EUR 188); to Vienna for EUR 149 (from EUR 287); and Madrid for EUR 109 (as opposed to EUR 185).
These prices are excluding airport and fuel taxes and surcharges. Passengers booking well in advance will have the greatest chance of
profiting from the lowest fares.
