Women in the MICE industry are being introduced to an ongoing mentoring
programme at EIBTM 2004 as a result of an agreement between the event organisers and SHINE Mentoring. SHINE has already established its programme
in the leisure industry and will be broadening its profile through this partnership.
“This is a groundbreaking move by the organisers of EIBTM, that really addresses
the needs of women in the industry,” says Alessandra Alonso, Co-Founder of
SHINE. “EIBTM’s support means that we will be able to hold a networking event at
EIBTM in Barcelona, which will give visitors the opportunity to learn about the
benefits of mentoring, by drawing on the expertise of others. We will also be
hosting debates and recruiting both mentors and mentees at the event. It is
testimony to the commitment of the team at EIBTM that they have become our first
corporate member of SHINE, meaning that they will also be practicing mentoring
systems within their own organisation.”
The SHINE Programme provides mentoring, education, research and networking
for and about women in Travel, Tourism, Hospitality and Leisure Industries.
SHINE’s mission is that of being an agent of change for women aspiring to
leadership positions and to enable them to achieve professional and personal
development in these sectors.
Debbie Jackson, Event Director of EIBTM says; “We are delighted to support this
initiative as it replicates best practice across the industry and encourages equal
opportunities. We will also be working with SHINE to develop new research that
can identify barriers that may prevent people from achieving their full potential
within the industry.” |
