As of today, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines
has announced it will issue monthly operational reports specifying arrival and departure times and various other statistics, based on the
monthly AEA report. These statistics will be compared with those of the three
other major European airlines; Lufthansa, Air France and British Airways.
KLM's punctuality performance declined in April 2004, compared to the same
month last year. This may be attributed to the sharp rise in traffic at Amsterdam
Airport Schiphol. In addition, several days of strong wind resulted in some
runways being out of commission, reducing operational capacity at
Schiphol. Furthermore, extended taxiing times too and from the Polder Runway also had an
impact on arrival and departure times.
External factors of this kind have a direct impact on operational performance.
Nevertheless, KLM succeeded in scoring a high completion factor (the percentage
of flights operated on schedule) in April 2004.
In the short and medium-haul category, KLM saw 87.3% of its flights arriving on
time and 84.8% departing on time. These scores were 4 points higher in April last
year. KLM respectively ranked second and third for arrivals and departures in this
category, compared to the three other major European airlines. KLM operated a
total of 99.4% of all short and medium-haul flights as planned, ranking second
beside British Airways in this category.
KLM punctuality scores for long-haul flights in April were 80.1% for arrivals and
76.5% for departures, both 5.5 points lower than in same month last year. KLM
ranked third, behind Lufthansa and British Airways, for arrivals and departures in
this category. KLM operated a total of 99.8% of its long-haul flights as planned.
KLM's score for missing baggage was relatively low; 1.49% of all bags did not
arrive at their destination together with their owners. |
