The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing
(DTCM) recently organized a meeting of officials from other government departments to discuss a
range of issues, including relaxation of procedures governing cruise operations in
Dubai Creek.
The meeting,
which dealt with the issue of floating restaurants, passenger yachts and Boat and Rental service cruise liners, took place at the DTCM Head Office was
attended by Dubai Police (Department of Ports and Airport Security), Ministry of
Communications, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Ports Authority and Dubai Civil
Defense.
The DTCM Deputy Manager Entertainment Activities and Inspection, Mohammed
Khalifa, said the idea behind holding such meetings was to encourage and
promote cruises on the Dubai Creek which has become a must-see tourist activity.
He said: "We debated on the ways to loosen up the procedures and rules
governing cruise operations to help the companies interested in having their small
boats and cruises in the Dubai Creek keeping in mind the safety standards."
"We also discussed measures for improving the facilities and services in order
ensure memorable experience for both the residents and visitors." he added.
He stated that detailed discussions on issues like increasing docking spaces for
the boats, registration procedures and improvised facilities for the cruise liners.
"We did a comprehensive survey which revealed that creek cruises, if marketed
with meticulous planning, can become one of the most prominent features in
promoting Dubai as a complete destination. This is only possible if attract interest
of international cruising companies in our facilities," said Mr. Khalid.
DTCM Executive Licensing, Khalid Al Agroobi said that it has been the
department's endeavor to work with other public and private sector organizations
to boost the tourism industry and complement each other's efforts in achieving a
premium status for Dubai on the world tourism map.
These meetings are classic examples of the joint-cooperation with the public
sector of Dubai to achieve every goal set for the emirate to be in the big league of
the world tourism industry, added Mr. Al Agroobi.
Currently, the Dubai Creek is witnessing the operation of cruises by 18 companies
and hotels. |
