Abacus enables e-ticketing on Philippine Airlines Domestic Routes

Travel News Asia 28 October 2004

Beginning today, Philippines Airlines domestic e-tickets are available through Abacus-connected travel agencies throughout the Philippines

Last month, Abacus enabled e-ticketing on Philippine Airlines' international services, bringing the number of e-ticket enabled carriers on its system to 18.

Mr Jaime Bautista, President and COO of Philippine Airlines, said he was delighted that eticketing had been extended to the national carrier's domestic services as it represented an important step in the growth of the airline.

"Providing our customers top-notch service is our highest priority, and with the very successful take-up of e-ticketing on our domestic routes, we felt it was important to also provide that service through our partner travel agents at the earliest opportunity." said Mr Bautista.

E-tickets continue to be an increasingly popular option for travellers throughout the region with more than three times as many tickets issued through the Abacus system in September compared to the corresponding period last year. During the month, more than 250,000 e-tickets were sold through the Abacus system.

"E-tickets are becoming more popular with travellers as they see the benefits of ticket-free travel. Airlines and travel agents are also seeing instant savings through a reduction in paper processes," said Mr Sarreal, Vice President, Associate Sales, Abacus International.
