Dragonair Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hui today presented The Nature Conservancy with a cheque for HK$1 million, the
proceeds of the airline’s ongoing inflight donation campaign, Change for Conservation.
“Change for Conservation was launched in January with the aim of raising HK$1 million by the end of the year,” explained Mr.
Hui. “Thanks to the overwhelming support and generosity of our passengers that target was reached and surpassed last month.
“This is the first programme of its kind for Dragonair and it has been a huge success. I’d like to thank our passengers and all the
people who have made it possible for important and unique habitats in Yunnan to be protected for future generations. The
programme will continue for the remainder of the year, and will set a benchmark for similar initiatives by Dragonair in future.”
Accepting the cheque on behalf of The Nature Conservancy, Russell Leiman, Director, Asia-Pacific Region, said: “Dragonair and its
customers have been remarkably generous, and through their support we will be able to help maintain the well-being of the
landscape and the people of Yunnan. I thank all those who have donated their change to the programme and those who have
worked passionately and tirelessly to make this programme such a remarkable success.”
The funds raised under the Change for Conservation campaign will be used by The Nature Conservancy in northwest Yunnan to:
create a system of protected areas with the policies and funding necessary to sustain them; to protect vital watershed areas,
especially along the Yangtze and Mekong rivers; to alleviate poverty, one of the principal causes of unsustainable natural resource
use and biodiversity loss; and, to develop sustainable economic alternatives for the people there. |
