AirAsia to increase frequencies to Sabah

Travel News Asia 2 July 2004

AirAsia has said it is to introduce additional services between Kuala Lumpur and Tawau, and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The additional services which commences on 22nd July (Tawau), and 12th August (Kota Kinabalu) will be AirAsia's second and sixth flight to Tawau and Kota Kinabalu respectively.

"Sabah's reputation as a land of natural eco-treasures and diverse ethnicity has enabled us to continue our growth in East Malaysia. A hub at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport would allow us to connect Sabah to our growing network of flights in South East Asia, and also allow us to introduce and explore more exciting routes and destinations that have yet to be served before. A good example is our Kuala Lumpur - Tawau flights, where we were the first and only airline to have explored a direct flight connecting these two cities, in order to cater for the needs of the market. We are now pleased to announce that we will be commencing a second flight serving Kuala Lumpur- Tawau, due to the overwhelming response that we have received since the route was introduced. Our flights to and from Kota Kinabalu and Tawau have achieved an average of 80% load factor since we started. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Sabah State Government, and Sabah Tourism for their assistance and continued  support. Also, a big thank you to the people of Sabah for their faith and support in AirAsia." said Tony Fernandes, Group Chief Executive Officer, AirAsia.

Tickets are priced from RM 109.99 one way (KL-Tawau) and RM 99.99 one way (KL-Kota Kinabalu).
