Shinta
Mani, an 18 room luxury boutique resort in Siem Reap, Angkor, Cambodia,
has commenced the first curriculum of its non-fee paying vocational training institute.
The vocational training institute is completely
funded by the profits from the boutique resort and provides young Cambodian
people the opportunity to receive vocational non-fee paying education.
The institute aims to provide them with the tools and knowledge to find a place in
Cambodia's labor market.
The first nine month curriculum of the school provides theoretical and practical
kitchen education. Training includes English language, life skills and all skills to
enable the students to find employment upon graduation.
Shinta Mani works closely together with various local NGOs and charities to select
16 students from the most under-privileged areas of the community. Besides free
education, students receive meals, uniform, study materials and a monthly stipend
(which includes 4 kilograms of rice to help the family of the students survive).
Future curricula will include vocational education in guest service as well as
exposure to spa service skills.
The vocational training centre is located besides Shinta Mani's boutique hotel and
guests of the resort will be able to visit the school and become acquainted with
the aims of the project. |
