This
year Muscat's 4.5km annual Terry Fox Run
is
to take place on Friday, 11th February, 2005 at 3pm. The course begins and ends at the Radisson SAS Hotel and takes place in
the Al-Khuwair area of the city.
The Terry Fox Run sees thousands of people participating each year in over 50 countries to raise money for cancer research in memory of Terry Fox, the
Canadian who bravely attempted to run across Canada in order to raise funds and create awareness of the disease.
Line Brunswyck, Run Organiser, explained: “Even though the run is taking place in Oman in February 2005, it is still classified as Terry Fox Run 2004 since the
calendar year for Terry Fox International runs from March to March. This year’s event will include a variety of activities including face painting, an aerobics
display and a live band prior to the start of the run. It will be an exciting day out for everyone, whether they are participating or just coming along to support this
great cause.
“More than 3,600 people participated in the run last year and over OMR16,000
was collected through individual participants and corporate donations. The success of
the event was not only reflected in the impressive public participation, but also the media coverage we received. Some 21 radio interviews and over 30 written
articles were published before and after the event, and we also received television coverage and interviews.
“This year we hope to encourage even more participation and expect even greater success as a result of the increased awareness that previous years have
helped to generate.”
The proceeds of this year’s run will be presented to the Breast Cancer Research Centre at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.
