Regent International Hotels
has appointed Mr. Martyn Standen as opening general manager of The Regent Shanghai. Mr. Standen brings more than 20 years of global hospitality experience and management expertise to
the luxury brand.
Formerly with Marriott Hotels, Mr. Standen has extensive international experience having held a number of general
management positions in the Philippines, China and the Middle East. His most recent assignment was that of opening
general manager of the JW Marriott Hotel and Marriott Executive Apartments in Shanghai, where the complex rapidly
established itself within the Shanghai community.
Commenting on the appointment, Paul Kirwin, president and managing director of Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific, parent
company of Regent International Hotels in the region, said, “I have no doubt that Martyn’s past experience, strategic
thinking ability and strong understanding of the Asian culture will help to drive the successful development of The Regent
Shanghai.
“With his astute knowledge and considerable experience in both opening and renovating luxury hotels, Mr. Standen will be
a key asset to our company at this important time,” continued Mr.
Kirwin.
Mr. Standen
will be responsible for all aspects of the hotel’s pre-opening
activities including the hiring of the team, developing the business plans and implementing the high standards and qualities that
define the Regent brand and Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific.

use working with Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific during the significant time of growth and expansion,” Mr. Standen said.
The 53-story luxury hotel is due under construction in Shanghai’s Changning District, a location offering easy access to
the central business district.
With an overall contemporary, yet classic design, The Regent Shanghai will feature luxurious rooms and suites, functional
work areas, large plasma TV screens and spacious bathrooms with oversized freestanding baths. All guest rooms will have
stunning views over the city.
The prestigious hotel is due to open late spring 2005 and will feature an all-day-dining restaurant, a Chinese restaurant
and a specialty restaurant, multiple bars, a grand ballroom, several meeting and conference rooms, an indoor swimming
pool and fitness centre. An exclusive Cigar Lounge will also be a fixture of the new establishment.
Summit Property Development Co. owns the landmark 500-room Regent Shanghai.
