United Airlines today announced that it has increased its existing $10 each-way fuel surcharge by $5, effective
immediately. United's $10 fuel surcharge has been in place since February 2003.
"Fuel prices have reached their highest levels ever, and some are predicting continued upward pressure on prices,"
said John Tague, executive vice president of marketing, sales and revenue. "Fuel costs in 2004 are estimated to be
$1 billion more than projections made in 2003. In response to these extraordinary circumstances, we are taking
every reasonable action to respond. While United is intensely focused on reducing its overall cost structure, we are
severely hampered by today's rise in fuel prices and must act to compensate in every way possible."
The fuel surcharge applies to fares in United First®, United Business®, unrestricted and some discounted United
Economy® fares, as published, for travel in the 50 United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S Virgin Islands and Canada. |
