Tiger Airways,
a Singapore based low fare airline, is to double its fleet next month by putting two new Airbus A320 jets into service and adding new destinations.
The two new aircraft will be used by Tiger Airways to
add more services from Singapore to both Bangkok and Phuket. Tiger Airways currently operates three daily flights to Bangkok and one daily service to Phuket.
“The new flights will be a windfall for savvy travelers. Tiger Airways has offered low fares on its new planes since day-one of our operations because this is what
travelers expect from Singapore’s own low fares airline – the highest level of safety, security and on-time reliability at unbeatable prices”, said Tony Davis,
president and chief executive officer designate of Tiger Airways.
Tiger Airways will be offering
10,000 low fare seats to both Phuket and Hatyai from Singapore for travel in January 2005 at the low fare of just
S$48.88 (one way). The seats go on sale from 22 December 2004 to 2 January 2005.
Davis said: “We don’t believe in offering a very limited number of seats at gimmicky prices. Tiger Airlines is serious about offering low fares to as many travelers
as possible. We are in this business for the long haul and we are Singapore’s only true low fare airline. That is why we are offering so many seats at this attractive
price.”
Davis will join the Company as President and Chief Executive Officer in January 2005. He brings to Tiger Airways 18 years of airline experience including as
founding Managing Director of bmibaby, the successful British low fares carrier, where he led the development of the airline from business plan to a fleet of 14
aircraft serving 26 destinations in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Continental Europe.
Davis was part of the founding development team and has served as managing director of bmibaby since that airline’s inaugural flight in 2002. In addition to his
work in the low fares airline sector, Mr. Davis has broad experience in designing and leading airline strategy, in airline operations, marketing and revenue
management, and in representing airlines before government and regulatory agencies, in the United Kingdom, the United States and overseas. Davis has worked
at British Midland Airways, Gulf Air Company and British Airways in various senior management capacities.
