Korean Air and Malaysia Airlines
are to expand their existing code-sharing operations into a free sale dynamic code share which
will cover two additional routes, Seoul-Kota Kinabalu vv and Seoul-Penang vv.
The expanded code-sharing takes effect from 01 December 2004
to enable both airlines to access each other’s seat inventory and market each other’s designator code ‘KE’ and ‘MH’, on all
flights between Korea and Malaysia.
Malaysia Airlines’ Senior General Manager Sales, Distribution & Marketing
Dato’ Rashid Khan predicts positive market response. “The enhancement of the code share arrangement will allow Malaysia Airlines to widen its market share through exposure in the
Korean market.”
“By expanding the code share relationship with Malaysia Airlines, we will be able to offer our customers even more flexible
flights and travel choices,” said Mr. Jong Hee Lee, President & COO of Korean Air. “And this clearly shows our ongoing
commitment to the Service Excellence strategy to greatly enhance our customers’ benefits in every phase of air travel,” Mr. Lee
added.
Malaysia Airlines operates 5x weekly direct services between Seoul and Kuala Lumpur and 2x weekly services to Seoul via Kota
Kinabalu utilizing the 294-seater Airbus A330-300.
Korean Air operates daily direct services between Seoul and Kuala Lumpur and 3 weekly flights between Seoul and Penang
