Representatives of commercial airlines and military operators in Asia Pacific as
well as officials from the government bodies of Malaysia converged today at the
Malaysia Airlines Academy (MAA) to gain an insight into the wide range of
aviation certification courses offered by MAA/Jeppesen Academy.
Among the airline representatives were those from Cathay Pacific, Singapore
Airlines, China Southern, Vietnam Air, Mandarin Airlines, Dragonair,
Garuda, Royal Brunei, Royal Jordanian, Iran Air, Yemen Air, and Qatar Airways.
During her welcome address to the visitors, Puan Mariah Sheikh Hussein,
Assistant General Manager Malaysia Airlines Academy, said, "In the past, flight
operations professionals had to attend such courses in Europe and North America. The setting up of this academy in Malaysia, the first of its kind in South
East Asia, has provided tremendous cost savings and convenience to participants in and around this region."
The partnership between Malaysia Airlines and Jeppesen formed in August last
year, has set a new excellence standard in flight operations safety and efficiency
in this region where course participants are trained, examined and tested by
Jeppesen's qualified staff and approved by the Malaysian Department of Civil
Aviation (DCA). International regulatory authorities such as Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) of USA and International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) and
DCA Malaysia recognize these courses.
Echoing the sentiment, Captain Yahaya Abd Rahman, DCA Deputy Director and
Head of Flight Crew Licensing said, "The DCA has approved the licensing program of flight operations officers/dispatchers of MAA/Jeppesen Academy
which conforms to the requirements of international regulatory authorities. On
behalf of DCA Malaysia, we commend Malaysia Airlines and Jeppesen for moving forward to establish these certification courses, available only in this part
of the world."
Malaysia Airlines Academy, established in 25 April 1996, provides aviation
courses ranging from basic to specialized skills training which has fast-gained
international recognition. In collaboration with local institutions of higher
learning, it is now also offering part-time degree courses for both Malaysia
Airlines staff and outsiders.
Jeppesen is a subsidiary of Boeing, reporting to the Commercial Aviation
Services business unit of Boeing Commercial Airplanes Group (BCAG), supporting the aviation industry as a 'stand-alone' business. Founded in July
2000, it is dedicated to delivering flight planning, operations and maintenance
systems training solutions to airline and corporate operators. Other than
Malaysia, Jeppesen Academies are located in Denver/USA, Beijing/China, London/United Kingdom, Frankfurt/Germany and Dubai/United Arab Emirates. |
