The American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) is featuring a special panel discussion and reception event for members of
the association’s Young Professionals Society (YPS), sponsored by Thrifty Car Rental. The two events will be held at
ASTA’s 2004 World Travel Congress, held in Hong Kong Sept. 28 – Oct. 3.
“The reception and panel discussion will give our young professionals two great opportunities to learn from and network
with travel industry leaders and experts,” said YPS Chair Kari Thomas of Will Travel, Inc. “We are excited about the future
of the Young Professionals Society, and these opportunities are samples of great things to come.”
The panel discussion, to be held Sept. 28, will feature young professional representatives from various sectors of travel,
including Tour, Consortia and Hotel. The panel will address the changing landscape of the industry, specifically how
industry organizations are adapting to youth development from both a human resource and a strategic marketing
perspective. The panel will also answer questions from young professionals in attendance.
In addition to the discussion panel, the YPS will hold a reception on the evening of Oct. 1.
ASTA’s Young Professionals Society is designed for travel agents age 40 and under. The group’s purpose is to enhance
travel professionals business skills through continuing industry education, training and networking opportunities. The
group encourages younger members of the industry to take leadership positions within
ASTA.
Benefits of YPS’ free membership include recognition on ASTAnet, networking opportunities with travel agents and
vendors, continuing education, a quarterly newsletter, exclusive invitations to FAM trips, special cruise events and
receptions at ASTA meetings.
Both events are exclusively for members of the Young Professionals Society.
