Thai tourism bodies led by
the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) are to launch a 30-million-baht “Green Season in
Thailand” campaign to generate activities for tourists during the off-peak
period.
TCEB
is teaming up with the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) and Thai Airways International to attract
tourists in the MICE segment or Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition in nine major Asian markets who primarily work
for multi-national corporations to visit Thailand during the monsoon season. The nine countries are China, Hong Kong,
Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Philippines Singapore, and Taiwan.
The “Green Season in Thailand” scheme is a combined effort by the three allies to offer attractive tour packages during the
rainy season that they would never normally get during the regular
season. TCEB will provide the target group with privileges such as reception parties, spa services, golf games, and specially designed trips while TCT will liaise with its member hotels to offer
appealing rates and Thai Airways will offer special ticket discounts.
The campaign will be advertised through international trade shows, road shows in targeted markets and in brochures
available at THAI overseas ticket offices and TAT offices abroad. Familiarization trips to Thailand will be organized for
decision-making corporate executives to accelerate their decisions on Green Season promotion packages for 2005.
The Green Season in Thailand scheme is to take place between April 15 and September 30, 2005 with at least 30 million baht
spending, which is expected to earn at least 485 million baht from the target group.
TCEB Director General Peerapong Oeusoonthornwattana
said, “This is the start of TCEB and its first project to liaise with various agencies to attract higher-end customers to Thailand, which
is fulfilling its main corporate objective to build cooperation with all fronts to make Thailand as Asia’s tourism hub,”
“We will continue this cooperation with other agencies to help the private sector overcome the low season and to show our
clients that we have all sorts of products for all types of tourists all year round,” he
added.
