Qantas launches new TV commercial

Travel News Asia 16 August 2004

Qantas recently launched its new television commercial 'I Still Call Australia Home'.

The sequel to the successful 1998 and 2000 television advertisements features children from The National Boys Choir and The Australian Girls Choir singing the airline’s signature tune at some of the world’s most picturesque locations.

The Executive General Manager of Qantas Airlines, John Borghetti, said the I Still Call Australia Home campaign was one of the most popular in the airlines' advertising history. “It combines three powerful components: amazing locations, a strong anthem and the emotive force of a choir of children encapsulating the ‘Spirit of Australia’.”

He said the new commercial highlights Australian landmarks including Whitehaven Beach in Queensland’s Whitsundays, Jabiru in the Northern Territory, Burra and McLarenvale in South Australia, Wallace Hut in Victoria, Cradle Mountain in Tasmania, Western Australia’s Pilbara region and Sydney’s Opera House and Bondi Icebergs swimming pool.

Some of the world’s most famous icons are featured, including the Eiffel Tower, the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC, London’s Wellington Arch and the Temple of Poseidon in Athens,” Mr Borghetti said.

“We also filmed in Mexico at The Pyramid of the Magician in Uxmal and the Monastery of Izamal, in Hong Kong, Kyoto, Montana, New York and the Queenstown area in New Zealand.

“We chose destinations that provided a dramatic backdrop for the children’s performances, with a blend of locations to capture the excitement and enjoyment of travel,” Mr Borghetti said.
