The Cornell Hotel
School has completed the endowment for the Richard G. Moore '67 Scholarship
fund, to be used each year to assist an undergraduate student at the School.
The fund is named for Richard Moore, a former professor who taught information technology for many years at
the School. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a career in
information technology. Benefactors include professional organizations and many friends of Moore, who was
among the pioneers in this field of study at the School.
A lead benefactor of the program is Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP), a professional
organization committed to furthering the hospitality technology and financial field since 1952. Moore was the
1992 inductee to HFTP's International Hospitality Technology Hall of Fame.
"We are very pleased to support the formation of this scholarship and recognize Dick Moore for the enormous
contributions he had made to the field of information technology," said Frank I. Wolfe, CAE, executive vice
president/CEO of HFTP. "Through this scholarship, Dick's legacy will live on in an important way at the institution
where he made such a positive impact on the field and on the many students who learned from him."
The drive to create the scholarship was led by Larry Hall '81, a hotel technology professional who studied under
Moore at Cornell.
"Dick Moore inspired many students to take a keen interest in this increasingly important field," said Hall, also a
lead benefactor. "Support has been substantial, which is a reflection of the lasting impression Dick made on his
students and his colleagues."
The Richard G. Moore '67 Scholarship fund furthers the Cornell Hotel School's ongoing drive to increase funding
opportunities for worthy students.
"Cornell is delighted to launch this scholarship program," said David Butler, dean of the School. "On behalf of the
Hotel School community, I extend our warmest appreciation to the Hospitality Financial and Technology
Professionals organization, to Larry Hall, and to everyone who has helped in this endeavor."
The first installment of the scholarship will be used to provide support in the fall semester of 2004.
