Virgin Blue has today unveiled
its ‘Blue Check’ self service kiosks at Brisbane Airport that will allow
passengers to conveniently check themselves in, choose a seat and print their own boarding pass and itinerary in less than 60 seconds.
The
airline said that the performance and user friendliness of the ‘Blue Check’ kiosks will be closely monitored during an initial three month pilot stage
before they are rolled out across its network.
Virgin Blue expects to install kiosks in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne Airports next year with other ports likely to
follow.
Initially ‘Blue Check’ will be offered to
passengers travelling with cabin baggage only. However the airline plans
to give all travellers the option of self-service check-in by the end of the first quarter of 2005, including those with checked
luggage.
Virgin Blue Chief Executive, Brett Godfrey, said, “As always we are focused on enhancing and streamlining the travel experience
for our Guests and the new ‘Blue Check’ self-service kiosks are just another way through technology that we can offer quick,
efficient and more convenient service to travellers.”
“Another bonus of rolling out ‘Blue Check’ kiosks is that Virgin Blue will be able to increase the number of flights from selected
airports without creating longer check-in lines or raising costs by adding further check-in counters to cope with future demand.”
“This initiative will help us to continue our growth while keeping our operating costs low so we can continue to pass the savings
on to travellers,” Brett Godfrey finished.
Specially trained Virgin Blue Ground Crew will be on hand as ‘Blue Check’ ambassadors to assist
passengers with the Blue Check process.
