SriLankan opens Cargo Sales office in Kollupitiya

Travel News Asia 13 January 2004

SriLankan Cargo has opened its newly renovated and refurbished Sri Lanka Cargo Sales office in Kollupitiya.

The enhanced features of this sales office include state-of-the art IT and communications facilities, newly recruited sales team and dedicated customer service support centre (telephone 019733 3222). Over 100 cargo sales agents and shippers will use the facilities of this office.

This office also provides facilities to accept small parcels, each weighing not more than 100 kilos, which may comprise samples and personal effects.  Nalin Rodrigo, Head of SriLankan Cargo said "Our investment in the new Sri Lanka Sales office is evidence of our continuous commitment to ensure that SriLankan retains its competitive edge over the manufacturing and producing centres in the region."

The new Sri Lanka Cargo Sales office at No 660 Galle Road, Colombo 3, will provide all cargo sales and services such as reservations, freight rate quotations, cargo acceptance (small parcels only), information on special cargo such as pets and restricted goods and post-flight information such as that on the position of cargo during carriage. The airline uses modern software called SriLankan SkyChain to track and trace cargo from point of origin to destination.  Sri Lanka Customs officials also have a desk at the Sri Lanka Cargo Sales office to provide a one-stop shop for cargo acceptance, thus offering hassle-free service to the customer.

Mahiman Yapa, Cargo Sales Manager, SriLankan, said, "The key to retaining customers today is to provide real-time information throughout the various stages of the supply chain. It is also important that other partner airlines and freighter services are available to ship goods carried on SriLankan Airlines to further points to which SriLankan does not fly."
