The countdown has begun to the Concorde enthusiasts' online auction, taking
place from 14 to 17 April 2004 in the United Kingdom. The auction will be taking
place in Stoneleigh Park near Coventry, and simultaneously webcast to worldwide
bidders over the Internet.
More than 150,000 Concorde items are to go under the hammer, giving
enthusiasts across the globe the opportunity to buy a piece of Concorde history.
Such diverse items from the aircraft including nose cones, cockpit
instrumentation, on-board computers, seats, galley equipment, engines and their
components, lights, crockery and cutlery, will be available for purchase.
Martin George, director of marketing at British Airways, said: "We received letters
from Concorde fans all over the world asking to buy their own piece of aviation
history and we are extremely pleased to be able to offer them the opportunity."
The four-day event is being run by DoveBid, a global provider of auction and
valuation services.
"British Airways will be the largest UK auction in DoveBid's history with over
150,000 items for sale", said Ross Dove, chairman and chief executive officer of
DoveBid. "Hundreds of bidders around the world have already expressed an
interest in purchasing a piece of Concorde memorabilia through this global
Webcast auction."
