The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing
(DTCM) has expanded its network of Visitors Information Bureau (VIB) by opening the eighth
facility in Mercato, billed as the first and only themed Renaissance mall in the
Middle East.
The DTCM Manager Visitors Information Bureau, Mr. Salah Rashid Al Ansari, said:
“This facility will act as a one-stop centre for the visitors to get the information and
assistance they need. We are constantly making efforts to make Dubai even more
visitor-friendly.”
He added: “The sharp rise in the number of visitors to the emirate is leading to
more demand for information on anything and everything about Dubai. We had
just two VIBs in 1997 and the network now consists of eight. We regularly review
the needs and the network will be expanded if deemed fit.”
Mercato is the fifth shopping mall in the emirate to house a VIB, a popular contact
point for the thousands of visitors who come to Dubai to enjoy its year-round
sunshine, unlimited shopping and dining options and world-class attractions and
hospitality.
Announcing the opening of Mercato VIB at a Press conference today,
Mr. Al Ansari said over 330,000 visitors were handled by the VIBS in the past
seven years.
The first VIB was set up in 1993 at the Dubai International Airport and the year
2002 saw the opening of VIBs in four shopping malls – Deira City
Centre, Hamarain, Wafi City and BurJuman.
Mr. Al Ansari said: “We really appreciate the support the management has
extended in bringing this value-added service for the visitors.”
He said the VIB provides brochures and booklets about tourism and trade in
Dubai. In addition, it provides road maps, public transport schedules, and
information regarding shopping and tourist facilities.
It also provides information relating to conducting business in Dubai.
An hotel reservation facility is also available.
Ms. Rebecca Arnold, Marketing Manager, Mercato, said: “We have developed a
very strong working relationship with the DTCM. We are very pleased to provide
an additional service to our customers.”
She added: “We have been working very hard with the department to materialize
the bureau which will provide a wealth of information for travellers who wish to
know more about Dubai. This facility, we felt, was much needed and a sought-after
service.” |
