Singapore Airlines (SIA) is
adding capacity on several routes to cater for traditionally higher demand in November, December
and January, especially over the Christmas and New Year period.
Customers traveling to India will benefit from this added capacity. The period 31 October 2004 to 26 March 2005 sees the
incorporation of supplementary flights and the use of larger aircraft on scheduled services to Bangalore and Chennai. Bangalore
will gain 2 extra flights per week.
For Singapore Airlines, this has translated into a substantial increase in capacity to India over the peak holiday seasons.
Measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK), capacity has been increased to India by 33 percent over last year. Additional
scheduled flights to Bombay and Calcutta, as well as the introduction of services to Ahmedabad and Amritsar during the second
half of 2004, have also contributed to this increase.
Recent increases in services to Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Christchurch have also boosted capacity to destinations in the
South West Pacific region. Comparing the November 2003 to March 2004 period with November 2004 to March 2005, the
Available Seat Kilometers for this region will be up by 11.1 percent.
The
airline said it is also planning to operate supplementary services to Taipei, Kuala Lumpur and Penang in early 2005 to meet additional
demand during the Chinese New Year period.
