The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing’s (DTCM) Director
General, Mr. Khalid A bin Sulayem, has held discussions on tourism industry trends,
Dubai promotions, and the MICE sector developments with the President and
CEO of Society of Incentive and Travel Executives (SITE) and the Undersecretary
at the Libyan Ministry of Tourism.
In the first meeting held at the Mina A’ Salam hotel on the sidelines of the
first-ever SITE Executive Summit being held in the Middle East, Mr. bin Sulayem
held talks with Mr.Roger Tondeur, President of SITE, and Ms. Brenda Anderson,
CEO of SITE.
Their discussions were related to the trends in the incentive and meetings
industry, the unique advantages of Dubai in terms of geographical location and
facilities, and the marketing and promotional agenda of the department and
Dubai Convention Bureau (DCB) which operates under its umbrella.
The meeting was attended by senior DTCM officials, including DCB Director, Mr.
Awadh Al Seghayer.
Mr. bin Sulayem briefed the international incentive industry experts about the
role of the department and DCB in Dubai’s tourism sector and the initiatives
launched and planned to make Dubai the most preferred MICE destination.
Mr. Tondeur said the future belongs to Dubai given the impressive infrastructure
in place and the marketing and promotional agenda being pursued by the department and DCB to garner a greater share of the markets it has been tapping
aggressively.
He said the decision to hold the first-ever SITE Executive Summit in the Middle
East in Dubai was taken after studying the world-class facilities and services that
the emirate offers to leisure and business travellers alike.
Dubai, he said, was all set to play a significant role as one of the choice
destinations for the incentive travel industry.
A not-for-profit professional organisation, the 30-year-old SITE has 1,800
members with 28 chapters in 82 countries.
In another meeting at the DTCM Head Office, Mr. bin Sulayem received Dr. Oraiby
Ahmed, Undersecretary at the Libya’s Ministry of Tourism and discussed the
department’s role in strengthening cooperation with different countries and
cultural and heritage programmes lined up for the DSF-2004.
Libya is participating in a Bedouin lifestyle festival organised by the department
at the Heritage Village as part of its calendar of events for the DSF-2004. |
