Tiger
Airways today confirmed that Tony Davis is to join the low cost airline as
its new President and Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Davis
has 18 years of airline experience including as founding Managing Director of bmibaby, the
successful British low fares carrier, where he led the development of the airline from business plan to a fleet of 14 aircraft
serving 26 destinations in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Continental Europe.
“We are pleased to introduce Tony Davis as our new chief executive and welcome him to Singapore”, said William A. Franke, the
Tiger Airways Chairman. “Tony’s exposure to the low fares airline sector—designing and growing a new generation airline in the
very competitive Western European market—together with his significant experience in airline strategy, operations, marketing
and government and industry affairs, make him an ideal choice to lead Tiger Airways. The addition of Tony to our team will
provide Tiger Airways with accomplished, battle-tested and focused leadership as we expand our reach in the increasingly
competitive Southeast Asian travel market.”
“I am very excited about the opportunity to lead Tiger Airways and to embrace the challenges of growing a new generation
airline in Southeast Asia,” said Mr. Davis. “I look forward to living and working in Singapore and am confident that Tiger Airways’
Singapore base, our strategic plan and the support of our shareholders will be a winning combination as the low fare airline
sector develops and consolidates in this dynamic region.”
Mr. Davis was part of the founding development team and has served as managing director of bmibaby since that airline’s
inaugural flight in 2002. In addition to his work in the low fares airline sector, Mr. Davis has broad experience in designing and
leading airline strategy, in airline operations, marketing and revenue management, and in representing airlines before
government and regulatory agencies, in the United Kingdom, the United States and overseas.
Prior to undertaking the leadership of bmibaby, Mr. Davis worked at British Midland Airways from 1999 through 2001 as Director
of Corporate Affairs and from 1997 through 1999 as General Manager, Industry Affairs and Pricing. Prior to that, Mr. Davis
worked at Gulf Air Company in Bahrain as Manager, Interline Development, Pricing and Industry Affairs. From 1986 through
1994, Mr. Davis worked at British Airways in various management capacities in marketing and strategic alliances, stationed in
London and New York.
Mr. Davis holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from Lancaster University and is a Fellow of the Society for
Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturing and Communication, a Member of the Air League and a Member of the Royal Aeronautical
Society. He is 38 years old.
Mr. Davis
is expected to relocate to Singapore by January 1, 2005.
