Continental Micronesia increases flights between Cairns and Guam

Travel News Asia 8 May 2003

Continental Micronesia has announced additional summer service between Cairns and Guam. The third weekly flight is added to Continental's regularly scheduled service between Cairns and Guam, which operates on Friday and Monday.

Starting June 1st, Continental will add a Thursday flight, increasing service to three times per week. CO903 departs Cairns at 12:10 a.m. and returns to Guam at 4:45 a.m. CO902 will depart Guam at 6:30 p.m. and arrive in Cairns at 11:10 p.m. A next-generation Boeing 737-800 will service the four hour and 40 minute non-stop flight.

"Traditionally, this route has been supported primarily by our customers in Japan. However, Continental has worked diligently to promote North Queensland in Guam and also to promote Guam in North Queensland. As a result, passenger volume grew significantly during the year to justify an additional flight," said Continental Micronesia President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Erwin.

Continental Micronesia Cairns Airport Manager Cindy Bakewell said the added flight is perfect for Cairns travelers longing for a new holiday experience. "The additional flight gives our customers flexibility when planning their travel to Guam and beyond. Further, the arrival time at Continental's hub in Guam allows for a quick connection to Honolulu and onward to Los Angeles and other points in the U.S. mainland."
