SriLankan Airlines' newest ticketing office opened recently in
Trincomalee, the ninth major town in Sri Lanka (other than Colombo) to which the national
carrier is extending complete services.
"In our effort to support the government's peace efforts, SriLankan Airlines
has opened ticketing offices in Batticaloa, Jaffna and Trincomalee this year.
Our Vavuniya office will open before the end of the year," said Mr. G.T.
Jeyaseelan, Head of Commercial, SriLankan Airlines.
Many residents of the North and East are frequent international air travellers
as they have relatives in Europe or India.
The airline has been expanding its network throughout the island in recent
times. Ticketing offices in Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, Ratnapura,
Badulla, and Dambulla are the result of a strategy to ensure that customers
in the outstations do not have to travel all the way to Colombo for ticketing
matters.
"With its magnificent natural harbour and lush surroundings, Trincomalee
has been a port of call on the world map for centuries. It is only fitting that its
citizens have all of our services at their doorstep, and that the new office is in
a convenient location in the town," said Mr. Ranil Wagiswara, Country Manager, SriLankan Airlines.
The fully computerised office, operated through St. Lourdes Travels
(Pvt) Ltd, provides all facilities and services of a SriLankan ticketing office. It
provides ticketing, reservation and reconfirmation services, issues PTAs,
handles special requests and enquiries on fares, schedules and packages.
An office in Trincomalee is in line with the airline's plans to extend air taxi
operations to this town that is slated to become a tourist destination on
account of its beautiful beaches. SriLankan plans to begin air taxi operations
from the Bandaranaike International Airport to major tourist destinations on
the island. It is envisaged that air taxis will attract tourists from the higher
end of the market, whom SriLankan wishes to encourage to its homebase.
The office is located at 250 Dockyard Road, Trincomalee. Telephone
026-2221111 or 026-2221101 (Phone/Fax). It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5.00
p.m. on weekdays (except mercantile holidays), and from 8:30 a.m. to 1.00
p.m. on Saturdays. |
