British Airways
today resumed its flights from London Heathrow to Saudi Arabia.
The decision to restart flights follows a thorough review of security in and
around Riyadh and Jeddah airports, in co-operation with the UK government’s
Department for Transport and the Saudi authorities.
Geoff Want, the airline’s director of safety and security, said: “Our own team of
security experts, together with British government officials, has worked
closely with the Saudi authorities to implement a number of additional, robust
and sustainable security measures. We are now satisfied that levels of security are appropriate for us to resume services.
“We continue to liaise with the UK government’s Department for Transport
and will keep the situation under close review.
“We will not fly to any destination unless we are satisfied it is safe to do so.”
Flights to Riyadh
resumed today, Saturday, September 6, 2003 and flights to Jeddah will restart on Sunday, September 7, 2003.
Flights to Saudi Arabia were suspended on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 due
to heightened security concerns in the country. |
