Singapore Visitor Arrivals from 22 - 28 April 2003

During the period 22-28 April, Singapore visitor arrivals declined 74% as compared to the same period last year. Arrivals from countries like Japan, USA, Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia and Thailand declined by about 80% while arrivals from P R China dropped by 92%.

The Singapore Tourism Board stated that travel advisories and alerts by various countries (namely Japan, Australia, South Korea, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia, Spain, China, France, Belgium, Mexico, Ireland and Italy), as well as the cancellation of different events contributed to the decline in visitor arrivals (67% or 192,800) over the period of 1-28 April. During this period, Thailand, Hong Kong SAR, USA, Japan and Malaysia recorded the highest percentage decline of over 70%.
