Japan Airlines
President and CEO, Mr. Isao Kaneko and Swiss International Air Lines Chairman of the Board, Mr. Pieter
Bouw, have signed a far-reaching partnership agreement including a code share
arrangement which will become operational beginning April 1st on the Tokyo-Zurich route. The two carriers also plan to link their frequent flier
programmes in the near future.
In the period April 1- May 31 and from October 1, JAL will operate three
weekly round trip flights between Tokyo and Zurich with its own aircraft and
crew, while SWISS will operate six weekly round trip flights between the two
cities. JAL will code share on four of SWISS's departures from Tokyo and on
three flights from Zurich. SWISS will code share on one JAL flight departing
Tokyo.
During peak summer season, from June 1 through September 30, JAL will
increase the number of its flights to a daily operation and will code share
with SWISS on two one-way flights, while SWISS will maintain its six weekly
flights and code share on two one way JAL flights.
In the future the two airlines plan to expand the arrangement to include
domestic flights, Japan-Asia flights and flights from Zurich to other cities in
Europe.
JAL
plans to use its MD-11 aircraft with 233 seats for their Tokyo-Zurich flights.
SWISS will also operate MD-11 aircraft, with 240 seats. |
