Global Search for Elite Model Look 2003 Heats Up

Travel News Asia 6 October 2003

International catwalks are heating up as Elite agencies and organizers across the world conduct their final search for their Elite Model Look 2003.

Elite Model Look is a global campaign by leading model management agency Elite to recruit fresh faces each year. Top models discovered through the Elite Model Look include Cindy Crawford, Tatjana Patitz, Gisele Bundchen and Nourchene Cherif.

For many countries, the Elite Model Look national search is a large-scale event that involves scouting tours across cities and extensive local media support.

In Tunisia, a casting tour on the beaches along 1300km of the Tunisian Coast and across 10 cities to hunt for the Elite Model Look 2003 was held. The number of applicants for Tunisia this year surged by about 2.5 times.

Elite Chile staged scouting events in the most important cities of Chile and popular vacation spots such as Vina del Mar, Zapallar, Pucon and La Serena over 4 months in summer. The finals event enjoyed the highest rating for modeling events on national TV and was nominated the most important fashion event of the year.

Elite Korea brought 40 contestants to Thailand for a training camp, which involved outdoor photography shoots in key sightseeing attractions. The event was covered extensively by media in both Korea and Thailand.

The largest worldwide model search of its kind, Elite Model Look has attracted as many as 350,000 applicants from over 50 countries.

In Latin America and the Caribbean alone, over 100,000 entries have been received for Elite Model Look this year.

"In Latin America, many applicants come from poor families. Most of them have never taken an airplane and traveled abroad. Elite Model Look provides the window of opportunity to see the world and develop a successful career as an international model.

Gisele Bundchen represented Brazil in the Elite Model Look International Finals in 1994 and went on to become one of the best models in the world under Elite's management. She is the source of inspiration for many of our contestants who see Elite Model Look as the way to fulfill their dreams for a better life," said John Bilboa, Director of Elite Latin and South America.

To date, 25 countries have selected their most promising contestants to vie for the Elite Model Look 2003 International Finals in Singapore. These include Serbia and Montenegro (previously known as Yugoslavia), USA, Chile, Holland and Tunisia whose contestants ranked top 3 over the past 2 years.

The national search for Elite Model Look 2003 is ongoing in most parts of Asia such as China, India, Korea, Singapore and Malaysia until October. Only Japan has selected their contestant so far.

For most of the contestants, especially those from longer haul markets such as Europe and the Americas, the trip to Singapore for the Elite Model Look 2003 International Finals will be their first stop in Asia.

The Singapore Tourism Board is working closely with the event organiser MS Twilight and local industry partners to create a most enjoyable and unforgettable experience to welcome the contestants and their supporters to Singapore.

The contestants will all arrive in Singapore by 30 October 2003. They will undergo training and outdoor photography shoots at popular sightseeing attractions in Singapore. They will be staying at The Regent Singapore, which is the official hotel for the event.

The Elite Model Look International 2003 International Finals will be held on 8 November at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Admission to this trendy and chic event is by invitation only. Special promotions will be held in Singapore and  overseas visitor markets to give away exclusive tickets for this premier fashion event of the year.
