Finnair improves its services - Self-service check-in kiosks now for connecting flights

Travel News Asia 4 November 2003

Travellers can now check in for connecting flights on Finnair's self-service check-in kiosks at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and Stockholm's Arlanda Airport.

Travellers also have the added benefit of being able to check in for the return flight at the same time if it departs within 24 hours.

"The share of self-services in airport operations is growing steadily at approximately one percentage point per month," says Tuija Makkonen from Finnair Marketing Business Solutions.

The service is possible when the first leg of the flight is a Finnair operated scheduled flight and with a Finnair flight number on the ticket. The connecting flight can be a code-share flight or one operated by a different airline.

Use of the self-service kiosk is quick and easy. Check-in begins by placing the ticket coupon in the machine. After that you simply follow the instructions on the screen.

When travelling with an e-ticket, place the Finnair Plus or credit card that has been used as an identifier into the machine. Even if the card was not given as an identifier for the e-ticket, travellers can still proceed with the self-service check-in. The machine simply asks for the flight details to be filled in.

Customers travelling with only carry-on baggage may proceed directly to the departure gate after check-in. At Helsinki-Vantaa Airport, checked baggage can be dropped off at the Baggage Drop desk number 219 or 220 and desk 21 at Stockholm Arlanda.
