PATA offers Scholarships to study in Hawaii

Travel News Asia 29 December 2003

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) is inviting applications for four scholarships to the 26th Executive Development Institute for Tourism (EDIT) programme. The three partial scholarships and one Jerome A. Keller Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to promising young executives to help them get ahead in the travel and tourism industry.

EDIT, June 7-25, 2004 at the University of Hawaii’s School of Travel Industry Management (TIM) is an intensive three-week executive programme featuring lectures, class discussions, case studies, group presentations and field visits. EDIT’s faculty comprises respected academics from the University such as TIM Dean Emeritus, Mr. Chuck Gee, and experienced professionals from diverse industry sectors such as PATA Managing Director-Strategic Intelligence Centre (SIC), Mr. John Koldowski.

EDIT is open to 24 individuals with management responsibilities in travel and tourism-related organisations. Pre-requisites for enrolment are a college degree or equivalent work experience in the tourism industry, plus reasonable proficiency in the English language.

Each PATA scholarship is worth US$2,100 and covers about half the total programme cost. PATA Board Member, Ms. Gloria Keller, will sponsor the Jerome A. Keller Memorial Scholarship. Organisations which are PATA members can apply for a scholarship by submitting the following items to PATA Headquarters by March 15, 2004:

- A brief essay on why you wish to attend EDIT
- A current curriculum vitae or resume
- An official recommendation letter from your organisation guaranteeing the balance of the programme costs
