Galileo
International has received International Air Transport Association (IATA) Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) approval to
offer E-ticketing in Indonesia. Galileo commenced pilots with six travel
agents in Indonesia and two airlines on October 23rd.
"We are delighted to have achieved this first in the Indonesian market," said
Janie Kaung, executive vice president and managing director of Galileo's
Asia Pacific region. "We have had a very successful summer with E-ticketing. This success in Indonesia comes just two months after Galileo
India also became the first GDS to get BSP approval to issue e-tickets. We
are aggressively pushing ahead with E-ticketing across the Asia Pacific region because all parties in the travel equation benefit from paperless travel
- airlines, agencies and passengers - and because it is an excellent way of
demonstrating our determination to drive value in and costs out for our customers on both the agency and airline side."
Richson Ray Silitonga, IATA's Industry Distribution and Financial Services
Manager in Indonesia, added: "We certified on October 15th that Galileo's
electronic ticketing system is technically compatible with the present requirements of the BSP in Indonesia. Galileo is the first GDS in Indonesia to
receive IATA/BSP certification for E-ticketing. We are keen to see E-ticketing
take a firm hold in Indonesia as this brings important cost savings to airlines
and reflects continuing automation in the travel industry."
Galileo Indonesia commenced operations in mid 1998 and operates from its
head office in Jakarta. Dedicated support offices in Surabaya and Medan ensure customer support services and training are
provided to hundreds of travel agents across the nation.
"Galileo Indonesia has seen tremendous growth over the past years, thanks
to innovative local solutions, superlative service as well as the ability to book
most domestic airlines, providing agents with a unique platform for growing
their business," added Janie Kaung. |
